Top 10 Countries U.S. Citizens Can Escape to if Trump Takes Over USA in 2024

Trump's unique brand of Fascism may take over the USA in just a few months. Will you stay and endure or is it just better for you to find a new home where your values and sensibilities fit? Time to take a look.

With political uncertainties looming in the USA, many Americans are considering relocating to countries that offer safety, stability, and a commitment to democratic values.  It can be scary to leave one’s home.

I know because I have done it myself.  It is unsettling at first because you have a way of living; a rhythm and putting yourself into a new system throws that off and makes it scary.

But don’t worry too much, it passes quickly!  And then you find your very own paradise.  But where to go?

Well, the world is a huge place.  And so there are many places to go.  But for a democratic experience closer to American values that you would recognize, I prepared a top ten list for you.  It’s not based on lower costs of living.  It is based on finding a place that represents your more progressive values where you can live and work in peace without all the stress and acrimony.

So if that’s you and you’re thinking about moving abroad in response to potential changes in the U.S. political landscape, here are ten countries to consider.

1. Canada

Proximity and Familiarity

Canada is still a top choice for U.S. citizens due to its proximity and cultural similarities. The country values human rights, freedom of expression, and diversity. But it’s not the Canada of 20 years ago.  It has issues.  So research to make sure that it’s for you. Nevertheless, with a robust healthcare system and strong social safety nets, Canada still offers a peaceful environment that still respects democratic principles.

2. New Zealand

Natural Beauty and Progressive Policies

New Zealand is renowned for its stunning landscapes and progressive government. The country consistently ranks high in global peace and human rights indices. Its government prioritizes environmental sustainability, and social equality, and has a strong commitment to upholding democratic values.

No place is perfect but in New Zealand, many don’t wear shoes!  So that’s something right? They are super into nature.  So that may be for you.  Just be ready for high prices.

3. Germany

Strong Economy and Democratic Stability

Germany, as a leader in the European Union, offers a stable economy, a high quality of life, and a strong commitment to democracy. The country has a history of resisting authoritarianism and is known for its robust social welfare programs, making it a solid option for those seeking a new home.

Be advised that Germany is NOT for human rights activists anymore.  In fact, because of their 80-year-old past sins against their European Jewish citizens, they bend over backward for Israel even when Israel is intentionally murdering thousands of indigenous peoples including over 20,000 children in Gaza.

In Germany, the historical context of the Holocaust has led to stringent laws against any form of “anti-Semitism”, which are taken very seriously by German authorities.  The problem is that authorities don’t understand that protesting the murder of children is NOT anti-semitism.  Sadly, they have gone too far to protect Israel from being accountable.  So there’s that!  So be mindful because they will charge you with anti-Semitism if you criticize Israel.

Ireland is the exact opposite.  So if you are a human rights activist, go to Ireland which I list herein.

4. Portugal

Affordable Living and Safety

Portugal is gaining popularity among expatriates for its affordable cost of living, beautiful climate, and safety. The country has a strong respect for freedom and democracy, and its citizens enjoy a relaxed lifestyle with a high level of personal security.

5. Sweden

Social Equality and Environmental Consciousness

Sweden is known for its social welfare system, gender equality, and strong environmental policies. It consistently ranks as one of the best countries for quality of life and is a beacon of progressive values. The country’s political stability and commitment to human rights make it a desirable destination.

6. Costa Rica

Peaceful and Environmentally Focused

Costa Rica is famous for its “Pura Vida” lifestyle, which emphasizes well-being and tranquility. The country has no standing army, reflecting its commitment to peace. Costa Rica is also a leader in environmental sustainability and offers a relatively low cost of living for expats.

7. Australia

Quality Healthcare and Political Stability

Australia offers a high quality of life, a stable political environment, and excellent healthcare services. The country is known for its friendly, multicultural society and its commitment to democratic principles, making it an attractive option for relocation.

Just be ready for very high prices and cost of living!

8. Ireland

Friendly Culture and Economic Opportunities

Ireland is an English-speaking country with a rich cultural heritage and a strong economy. The country offers a high standard of living, excellent educational opportunities, and a welcoming environment for expats. Ireland’s commitment to democracy and human rights adds to its appeal.

The Irish are tough fun-loving people! It is an incredible country!  You won’t be sorry.

However, when you move around Ireland you will see many reminders of their past TROUBLES with the English; murals, pubs, and more. Those days are over now and most say that Northern Ireland will be reuniting with the Republic of Ireland within the next 20 years or less.  So that’s always good.

And in these new times, you will also see many Palestinian flags in the cities. In fact, unlike Germany which is decidedly 100% pro-Israel, Ireland has historically shown strong support for the Palestinian cause of freedom and self-determination.  In fact, because of their own oppression delivered to them by the English, the Irish are uniquely in step with the Palestinians.  In short, they understand what it’s like to be invaded by force, killed, and murdered by aggressive invaders.  And so they rebel against the Israelis and stand by the indigenous peoples of Palestine.

So if you applaud the murder of over 40,000 human beings in Gaza including over 20,000 children, Ireland is NOT for you.  You will NOT be cheered.  Believe me, I know because I met many ex-IRA soldiers who don’t take kindly to such talk.  However, if you are a human rights activist, Ireland will love you and, in the pubs, you will be cheered.  So go for it and enjoy Ireland!  It is a great place to live!

9. Switzerland

Neutrality and High Quality of Life

Switzerland’s longstanding policy of neutrality, along with its high standard of living, makes it a safe haven for those seeking refuge from political instability. The country offers excellent healthcare, a strong economy, and a reputation for respecting individual freedoms and privacy.

10. Uruguay

Political Stability and Progressive Social Policies

Uruguay, often overlooked, is a stable and democratic country with a high standard of living and progressive social policies. The country is known for its commitment to human rights, freedom of the press, and a strong social safety net, making it an appealing option for those considering a move.

HONORABLE MENTION:  MEXICO

Is NOT in the top ten list only because there are generally fewer English speakers for Americans than in the other places listed above. However, Mexico remains an amazing choice for U.S. Citizens who are willing to learn a bit of Spanish.

Why Mexico?

Because it’s on the border of the USA and easy to get back to visit those of your family that have decided to stay back.  And Mexico has amazing diversity, from beach life to mountain life to city life.  Want to be a farmer?  OK, that too!  It has everything the USA has except extremist politics.

Conclusion

While the future remains uncertain, these ten countries offer refuge for those seeking stability, democratic values, and a high quality of life. Whether driven by political concerns or the desire for a new adventure, these nations provide a range of options for U.S. citizens considering relocation.
